Courts Block Hazleton's Anti-immigrant Laws

Last month I blogged about the local laws proposed in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. All were designed to discourage undocumented immigrants from living in town. Judge James Munley (U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania) issued a temporary restraining order against the Hazleton City Council. This ruling prevents the town from enforcing its Illegal Immigration Relief Act Ordinance.

One third of Hazleton's population (total 31,000) is Latino. The restraining order is in effect until November 14.
